Building a Little Nation of Balance and Fun
When we started Barefoot & Salty, our goal was never just to sell balance boards. We wanted to build a crew of people who live for movement, fun, and connection. Today that nation stretches across Australia and beyond, from surfers using our boards to train for their next trip, to families using them as an all-weather activity, to physios using them in clinics to help their clients get stronger and more confident on their feet.
The Heart of Our Balance Board Community
Our community is made up of people of all ages and abilities. We’ve got groms learning to balance for the first time, teenagers practising skate tricks, parents sneaking in a workout while dinner cooks, and grandparents keeping active in a low-impact way.
Our boards are in lounge rooms, gyms, physio clinics, occupational therapy sessions, backyards, skate parks, schools, surf clubs, and even a few offices for those who want to swap their desk chair for something a little more fun.
We are proud that so many physiotherapists and occupational therapists choose Barefoot & Salty boards for therapy programs. They are used by people on the NDIS scheme for mobility training and coordination, and they are loved by those with autism, ADHD, and other neurodiverse needs because they make movement engaging, fun, and motivating.
Why People Stay in Our Community
Most people buy their first Barefoot & Salty board thinking it will just be a bit of fun. Then they realise it’s also a workout, a balance trainer, a focus booster, a rainy-day lifesaver, and a connection tool for the whole family.
They start using it for core strength and coordination, for warming up before a surf or skate session, or just to switch off and de-stress after a long day. Soon the board becomes part of the home, and the stoke spreads friends try it, kids bring their mates over, and before you know it, another crew of balance boarders is born.
More Than Just a Board - It’s Culture
Here’s the thing, anyone can copy a product, but no one can copy the culture we have built. Our community is made of real people, real stories, and real connection. We show up at local skate and surf comps, collaborate with other small Australian businesses, and put heart into every single board.
Our boards are Australian made using materials sourced from other local businesses, because we believe in supporting our community even if it costs us more. Every board is hand-sanded and varnished with a water-based finish, meaning no harsh chemicals, just quality craftsmanship you can feel.
We were also the very first business to create a beginner-safe balance board for those with mobility challenges, so more people could experience the benefits without feeling excluded.
The Barefoot & Salty Vibe
It’s freedom, movement, and not taking life too seriously. It’s barefoot mornings, sunny arvos, and that rush when you finally nail a trick you’ve been working on for weeks. It’s families laughing together, mates cheering each other on, and people discovering they are stronger and more capable than they thought.
Whether you are a surfer working on your stance, a skater wanting to train indoors, or a parent looking for something active for the kids, you’ll find your place in our little nation.
Want In
Joining is simple, grab a board, jump on, and let the fun take over. Whether you are training for sport, using it for rehab, or just want to move your body more, our crew will have your back.
The only rule? Bring your stoke.
