There are plenty of gadgets out there promising to improve your balance, strength and coordination. From fancy gym machines to wobbly discs and resistance bands, the options are endless. But if you are looking for something that actually works, feels fun and will not get shoved to the back of the cupboard, it is hard to beat a balance board. Here is how we stack up against the rest.

1. Balance Boards vs Gym Machines

Gym machines are great for building muscle but they lock you into one movement and target a limited range of muscles. A balance board works your entire body, especially your core, while improving coordination and reaction time. It is functional training that helps you in real life and on the waves, not just in front of a mirror. Plus you can use it at home, at the beach or even in the office.

2. Balance Boards vs Wobble Discs and BOSU Balls

These are okay for rehab and light training but they are small and do not give you the same freedom of movement. A balance board lets you mimic surfing, skating and snowboarding motions which means you are training your muscle memory while having fun. It is a better all round workout and way more versatile.

3. Balance Boards vs Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are great for strength and rehab but they do nothing for your balance. On a board you are constantly engaging stabiliser muscles you did not even know you had. Pair a balance board session with bands if you want but for core strength and coordination the board wins every time.

4. Balance Boards vs Expensive Home Gym Setups

Treadmills, rowing machines, weight racks are all great if you have the space and the budget. But a balance board is compact, portable and a fraction of the cost. You can stash it under your bed, take it on holiday or set it up in the lounge room for a quick session. No gym membership needed.

5. Why Barefoot & Salty Boards Come Out On Top

Our boards are proudly Australian made and we source every single material from other local businesses to keep our community thriving. Sure it costs us more to do it that way but we believe in supporting local and keeping the stoke alive close to home. Our design is completely original and we were the first to create a balance board that is safe for beginners and anyone with mobility challenges. Others might try to copy the look but they cannot copy the heart, soul and safety that goes into every Barefoot & Salty board.

We also use FSC timber and every board is hand sanded and finished with a water based product so there are no harsh chemicals. We offer the biggest roller selection in the market with 5 cm, 8 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm rollers plus a cork ball and dome. We also have the biggest colour range and if we do not have your favourite colour we can get it. With rave reviews from families, athletes, therapists and people on the NDIS scheme it is pretty clear we are doing something right.

6. Extra Bonus It Is Fun

Training tools are only good if you actually use them. The reason our boards beat everything else is simple. People want to get on them. Whether you are a kid trying to beat your last trick, a surfer perfecting your stance or using it in therapy to improve coordination, it feels like play instead of a chore. That is the secret sauce to sticking with it.
